Biography
Angela Susini was born in Florence, Italy, where she was immersed in the rich heritage of Renaissance art from an early age. Among her ancestors is Antonio Susini, a prominent painter, bronze caster, and sculptor who worked in the esteemed Florentine workshop of Giambologna, one of the most celebrated sculptors of the Mannerist period.

Angela’s formal journey into the world of art began with a prestigious scholarship to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence—an institution renowned for its exclusivity, admitting only a select few students each year. There, she earned a Master’s degree in Art Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, awarded by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Her studies spanned the history of art from the Paleolithic to the Modern and Classical periods and included rigorous training in fresco painting, pittura su tela e tavola (painting on canvas and panel), and traditional papermaking using both worn cloth and pure cellulose. She further honed her papermaking skills at workshops in Fabriano, Italy’s historic papermaking city.

Angela expanded her technical repertoire by studying printmaking at Il Bisonte – Foundation for Art and Printmaking, and completed a diploma in Renaissance Art and Trompe l’Oeil at the renowned Bottega / Florence Art Academy.
In Rome, she specialized in ancient manuscript and book conservation at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale.

Her scholarly contribution includes authoring a book on the use of enzymes in paper conservation for the OPD, alongside published writings for OPD Restauro magazine. She has restored a wide range of culturally significant works, including preparatory drawings by Renaissance masters, hand-painted wallpapers, ancient globes on parchment, fashion sketches, and Leonardo da Vinci’s Resta Codex at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan. Other notable restoration projects involved Corali choir books, antique globes, and parchment drawings.

Angela also worked at the distinguished Florentine studio of French curator Julie Guillemette, before gradually transitioning her practice from conservation to a more abstract and contemporary direction.

After living in Tuscany, Japan, Paris, and London, she is now based in Brighton & Hove, UK.

Angela Susini is currently developing a new series titled “Forest Bathing”—a sensory-based art collection inspired by the Japanese therapeutic practice of Shinrin-yoku (forest immersion). The project combines visual art with the concept of environmental wellness, and is intended to offer viewers a calming, immersive experience rooted in natural aesthetics and slow, mindful looking.
